The population was 521 at the 2000 census.\nThe Village of Red Creek is in the eastern part of the Town of Wolcott. The village is west of Syracuse, New York.\nThe settlement was permanently settled around 1811 and was originally called \"Jacksonville\" after Andrew Jackson. The name was changed to \"Red Creek\" around 1836.\nLocal lore explains the origin of the name Red Creek. At one time, a tannery occupied the spot on the North side of the falls. As part of the tanning process, dye was used to tan skins. Dye was disposed of in the creek flowing from the falls, coloring it red. A portion of the tannery's foundation can still be seen in the spot where the Pit Stop currently sits.\nThe village was incorporated in 1852.
