The town borders Owasco Lake, from where it gets its name. Owasco is home for many of the wealthier residents of Cayuga County.\nThe town was first settled around 1792, by a man named Herman Mesgow. The Town of Owasco was formed in 1802 from the Town of Aurelius.\nThe Lakeside Park was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.\nAccording to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 23.5 square miles (61\u00a0km), of which, 20.9 square miles (54\u00a0km) of it is land and 2.5 square miles (6.5\u00a0km) of it (10.82%) is water.\nOwasco Lake, one of the Finger Lakes, defines the west town line. The east town line is the border of Onondaga County.
