Earlier attested forms that the adapted name took include Huycholopuzco, Ocholopusco, Ochoroposco, Uchilubusco, and Chulibusco.\nThe first settlers are believed to have arrived in the area, possibly fleeing the fall of the Toltec Empire.\nHuitzilopochco existed as an independent lordship within Mexico-Tenochtitlan.
