Hague was established in the late nineteenth century as a plethora of Mennonite farming communities with the purpose of developing the fertile farmland in central Saskatchewan.\nThe town's connection to the farming community remains strong despite an influx of families escaping to the urban life offered by Saskatoon. Effectively, this has changed the character of the town. Regardless of an eventual migration to the city, Saskatoon's expensive cost of living has allowed Hague's population and size to slowly grow as shown by the increase of houses being built and amount of street additions. An explanation for this could be because Hague still maintains a relatively inexpensive cost of living with the convenience of a large urban centre nearby.
