Inadequate school facilities were the catalyst for creating the township.\nPlainsboro Center (2000 Census population of 2,209) and Princeton Meadows (13,436) are census-designated places and unincorporated areas located within Plainsboro Township.\nThe original residents of Plainsboro were the Unami Native Americans. In the 17th century, the Dutch settled the area for its agricultural properties.\nThe oldest developed section of Plainsboro is at the intersection of Dey and Plainsboro Roads.
