Fort Duchesne was originally a fort, established by the United States Army in 1886 and closed in 1912.\nFort Duchesne is located at 40\u00b017\u203236\u2033N 109\u00b051\u203248\u2033W\ufeff \/ \ufeff40.29333\u00b0N 109.86333\u00b0W\ufeff \/ 40.29333; -109.86333 (40.293199, -109.863329).\nAccording to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 7.7\u00a0square miles (19.8\u00a0km\u00b2), of which, 7.0\u00a0square miles (18.2\u00a0km\u00b2) of it is land and 0.6\u00a0square miles (1.7\u00a0km\u00b2) of it (8.36%) is water.\nAs of the census of 2000, there were 621 people, 165 households, and 138 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 88.5 people per square mile (34.2\/km\u00b2). There were 183 housing units at an average density of 26.1\/sq\u00a0mi (10.1\/km\u00b2).
