The city of Nash is situated immediately to the north, also along FM 989.\nAccording to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.7 square miles (4.4\u00a0km), all of it land.\nWake Village has no 19th Century history. It was built for the war effort in 1944\/45 to provide housing for the plant workers at the Red River Army Depot and the Lone Star Ammunition Plant.\nThe name came from Wake Island in the Pacific theater of the war.
