There was once a motel on the springs and travelers came from afar to soak in the springs. The water is not drinkable or used for irrigation due to high in mineral content. Now the springs are protected by the National Parks and Wildlife. Originally the artesian spring pumped 1700 gallons per minute. 2009 the spring is capped somewhat and is only outputting 400 gallons a minute.
