Most locals still refer to this railroad as the \"Santa Fe\".\nThere has been numerous floods during the history of Elmdale. In June and July 1951, due to heavy rains, rivers and streams flooded numerous cities in Kansas, including Elmdale. Many reservoirs and levees were built in Kansas as part of a response to the Great Flood of 1951.\nElmdale is located at 38\u00b022\u203223\u2033N 96\u00b038\u203246\u2033W\ufeff \/ \ufeff38.37306\u00b0N 96.64611\u00b0W\ufeff \/ 38.37306; -96.64611 (38.372994, -96.645976), in the scenic Flint Hills. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.2 square miles (0.52\u00a0km), all of it land, except Middle Creek.
