Most significant are the Golden Prairie, the Cook Meadow and the Pennsylvania Prairie.\nGolden City was established in 1866 as a stop on the Butterfield Stagecoach Line. It takes its name from a nearby area known as Golden Grove. Golden Grove was so named because the early settlers found old diggings in the area that they attributed to Spanish Conquistadors mining for gold.
