As US 51 is the central north-south route of the US Highway System, and US 50 is the central east-west route, in a sense this made Sandoval the \"center\" of the United States when the system was built in the 1920s.\nAs of the census of 2000, there were 1,434 people, 562 households, and 396 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,494.0 people per square mile (576.7\/km\u00b2). There were 641 housing units at an average density of 667.8 per square mile (257.8\/km\u00b2).
