Mahomet is located approximately ten miles west of Champaign at the junction of Interstate 74 and IL 47.\nMahomet is located at 40\u00b011\u203233\u2033N 88\u00b024\u20328\u2033W\ufeff \/ \ufeff40.1925\u00b0N 88.40222\u00b0W\ufeff \/ 40.1925; -88.40222 (40.192384, -88.402115).\nAccording to the United States Census Bureau, the village has an area of 17.7\u00a0km\u00b2 land and none of it is covered by water, although satellite photos shows lakes and Sangamon River.\nAs of the census of 2000, there were 4,877 people, 1,654 households, and 1,374 families residing in the village. This figure does not include surrounding subdivisions which would almost double the population. The population density was 711.6 people per square mile (274.9\/km\u00b2). There were 1,700 housing units at an average density of 248.0 per square mile (95.8\/km\u00b2).
