It is part of the Peoria, Illinois Metropolitan Statistical Area.\nAccording to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 6.9 square miles (18\u00a0km), of which, 2.6 square miles (6.7\u00a0km) of it is land and 4.3 square miles (11\u00a0km) of it (61.79%) is water. That most of the village is water is due to the fact that most of Upper Peoria Lake lies within its boundaries; this can be seen on official state maps.\nTopographically, the village can be roughly divided into three zones.
