The administrative centre is the village of Langev\u00e5g. Other villages include Solev\u00e5g, Fiskarstrand, Veibust, Leirv\u00e5gen, and Mauseidv\u00e5gen. Sula is one of the most densely populated municipalities of M\u00f8re og Romsdal, and it is part of the \u00c5lesund Region. It should not be confused with the island called Sula in Sogn og Fjordane county.\nOriginally, most of the island of Sula was part of the municipality of Borgund and a small part on the southwestern side of the island was part of Ulstein (see formannskapsdistrikt). On 1 July 1958, the southwestern part of Sula was transferred to Borgund. In 1968, Borgund (including all of Sula) was merged into the town of \u00c5lesund. On 1 January 1977, the southwestern part of Borgund (the entire island of Sula, along with many small islands around it) was separated from \u00c5lesund to become a separate municipality.
