It was actually originally settled one mile south of its current location. However, when the railroad bypassed the town in 1880, the city moved closer to the railroad, as happened often during that time.\nAccording to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.0 square miles (5.2\u00a0km), of which, 2.0 square miles (5.2\u00a0km) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.26\u00a0km) of it (2.48%) is water.\nAs of the census of 2000, there were 2,622 people, 1,038 households, and 685 families residing in the city.
