{"id":29953,"count":1,"description":"Mishicot is a village in Manitowoc County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,442 at the 2010 census. The village is located within the Town of Mishicot. Since 1984, Mishicot has had a sister village relationship with Le Ch\u00e2ble, Switzerland.\nIn 1844, Daniel Smith moved from New York to Wisconsin to establish a sawmill on the site of what is now Mishicot. Three years later, in 1847, he founded the village, naming it after his friend, Chief Meshigaud, the leader of the local Potawatomi community. The original spelling of the village\u2019s was Mishicott, with two T\u2019s at the end. It is believed the second T was officially dropped around 1950, when the village was legally incorporated with the State of Wisconsin.\nThe early setters of the village and the surrounding rural farmlands came from a number of countries, but most prominently from Germany, Bohemia, Switzerland and Canada.
