US 131 connects the city with US 31 at Petoskey, about 14 miles (23\u00a0km) to the north and M-32 about 7 miles (11\u00a0km) to the south (which connects with I-75 at Gaylord, 13 miles (21\u00a0km) to the east). The Great Lakes Central Railroad mainline also passes through the town. Boyne City is about 8 miles (13\u00a0km) to the northwest on M-75.\nAccording to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6\u00a0km), of which, 0.6 square miles (1.6\u00a0km) of it is land and 1.79% is water.\nAs of the census of 2000, there were 370 people, 158 households, and 97 families residing in the village.
