The village was relocated to this new location - its current location - to be closer to the rail depot.\nGrass Lake was named for the shallow, marshy lake just to its north.\nToday the greater Grass Lake area includes the Village of Grass Lake, Grass Lake Township, and parts of the Waterloo Recreational Area north of I-94.\nAccording to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.0 square mile (2.6\u00a0km), all land.\nAs of the census of 2000, there were 1,082 people, 421 households residing in the village. The population density was 1,124.2 per square mile (435.2\/km\u00b2). There were 436 housing units at an average density of 453.0 per square mile (175.4\/km\u00b2).
