It incorporated as a village in 1921 and as a city in 1927. On December 1, 2009, the Pleasant Ridge City Council approved plans for the city's first bar. Pleasant Ridge had previously been a dry community.\nAs of the census of 2000, there were 2,594 people, 1,110 households, and 712 families residing in the city. The population density was 4,563.7 per square mile (1,757.1\/km\u00b2). There were 1,129 housing units at an average density of 1,986.3 per square mile (764.8\/km\u00b2). The racial makeup of the city was 96.57% White, 0.85% African American, 0.42% Native American, 0.89% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.39% from other races, and 0.85% from two or more races.
