William Bruce (1776\u20131853) settled here in 1805. Bruce led the local militia during Tecumseh's War in 1811. The streets of the town were laid out in 1829.\nAbraham Lincoln visited Bruceville in October 1844 and gave a speech in support of Henry Clay.\nAs of the census of 2000, there were 469 people, 199 households, and 141 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,597.2 people per square mile (624.4\/km\u00b2). There were 221 housing units at an average density of 752.6 per square mile (294.2\/km\u00b2).
