B. Murphy, for the purpose of establishing a settlement in the Republican River valley. The townsite was surveyed on July 18, 1871.\nThe Company chose E. B. Murphy as the chairman of the board of trustees, C. Cowell, as the village clerk, and George W. Colvin as the village treasurer. The election was fairly informal: anyone in Furnas County who was 21 or older could vote.\nA post office was established in Arapahoe in 1872.
