The community derives its name from the Kemble family, who settled the area in colonial times. The Kemble family is buried within the Cemetery at Kemblesville Methodist church. There are also many historic street names, such as Kimbelot Lane. which derives its name from the Kimble Family. Also, Parsons road derives its name from the Parsons family. Benjamin Franklin is thought to have owned property within the current town limits.\nCurrently, the community houses a number of historic homes, along with a gas station, a Methodist church, and a pizza parlor (Village Pizza, formerly Prima's Pizza). A Happy Harry's drug store building was completed but the property is now up for sale, and the building remains unused.
