The community was named for the Riegel family, as early landowners; they established paper mills across the river in New Jersey\nBucks County, one of the three original counties in Pennsylvania, was named after Buckinghamshire, England. Bucks County became the setting for George Washington and his troops to cross the Delaware River and attack Trenton, NJ. Catching the enemy by surprise, it was the turning point of the American War of Independence.
