The first skateboarders rode down hills in Carlsbad, CA with clay wheels so that they would have an activity to do when the surf wan't good. Many years later, the first skatepark was made in Southern California. No one knew the skateboard boom was about to begin. Many skateparks that were built in the next few years. Now there are more than 2,600 skateparks in America. Skateboarding has taken off with the pros, like Tony Hawk, who have brought it to the main stream.
