Skateboarding is a great sport. The first skateboarders took big wooden boards into empty swimming pools so that they would have an activity to do when the surf wan't good. Not until the 1970's, the first skate park was made in California. Shortly after, the skateboard boom was about to begin. It was thousands of skate parks that were built in the next few years. The popularity of skateboarding has taken off with the pros, like Tony Hawk, who have brought it to the main stream.
