The first skateboarders took big wooden boards into empty swimming pools so that they would have an activity to do when the surf wan't good. Many years later, the first concrete skateboard park was made in California. No one knew the skateboard park boom was about to begin. Now there are more than 2,600 skateparks in America. Skateboarding has taken off with the pros, like Tony Hawk, who have brought it to the main stream.
