The first skateboarders took big wooden boards into empty swimming pools to mimic the waves of surfing. Not until the 1970's, the first skate park was made in California. No one knew the skateboard park boom was about to begin. It was thousands of skateparks that were built in the next few years. Today, there are more than 2,600 skateparks in America. Skateboarding has taken off with the pros, such as Rob Drydek and Shaun White, who have brought it to the main stream.
