Skateboarding has been designed and influenced by many skateboarders throughout the ages. A 2002 survey and study by American Sports Data discovered there were 18.5 million skate boarders in the world. 85 percent of Virginia skateboarders polled had used a board in the previous year were under the age of eighteen, and 74 percent were male. Those numbers have since doubled.
